God who created everything loved his creation, but loved compelled is no love at all, so he gave his creation a choice. The choice was to love and obey him, for our own good, or love ourselves more, and go our own way. This rebellion and rejection of purpose is sin. The price for sin is death. Mankind chose to go it without him and the result has been disasterous.
God still loved us though and made a way for us to still choose life with him. He made his own son Jesus Christ to pay the price for our sin. If we chose to accept his free gift of salvation through faith in the person Jesus Christ and payment of sin on the cross. Then we can be spared the price of rebellion and have a loving relationship with God.
